The Golden Rule
The Golden Rule
Chapter 1: The Schoolyard Incident
In the bustling town of Riverside, 11-year-old Max was known for his quick wit and love of pranks. One day, during recess, Max and his friends decided to play a prank on a new kid named Sam. They hid his backpack, thinking it would be a harmless joke.
When Sam realized his backpack was missing, he looked around anxiously. “Has anyone seen my backpack?” he asked, his voice shaky.
Max and his friends laughed, but their amusement faded when they saw how upset Sam was. He started to tear up, worried he’d lost his things.
Chapter 2: The Realization
That afternoon, Max couldn’t shake the image of Sam’s worried face. At home, he told his mom about what happened. She listened quietly and then asked, “Max, how would you feel if someone did that to you?”
Max thought about it and realized he wouldn’t like it at all. He felt a pang of guilt. “I guess it wasn’t very nice,” he admitted.
His mom nodded. “There’s a saying: ‘Treat others the way you want to be treated.’ It’s called the Golden Rule. Maybe tomorrow you can make it right.”
Chapter 3: Making Amends
The next day at school, Max found Sam sitting alone during lunch. He walked over and sat down. “Hey, Sam. I’m really sorry about yesterday. It wasn’t funny, and I shouldn’t have done that.”
Sam looked surprised but then smiled. “It’s okay. Thanks for saying that.”
Max felt a weight lift off his shoulders. They spent the rest of lunch talking, and by the end of the day, Max and Sam had started a new friendship.
Chapter 4: The Lesson Learned
From that day on, Max remembered the Golden Rule. He made sure to treat others with kindness, knowing that what goes around comes around. And he found that life was much better when he made others smile, rather than when he pulled pranks.
